We Still Love Them: Sausage Balls

Possibly the best recipe I've ever found is the recipe for Sausage Balls.  They require only three ingredients.  That's right, just three.  They can be made ahead of time, frozen, and cooked in an amount as large or as small as needed.  They're perfect for any occasion or meal.  You can eat them straight out of the oven or at room temperature, and they make a great snack when you're on the move.  This is often our go to food when we're going to be traveling, cutting wood, hiking or in L's case hunting. 


Sausage Balls

2 cups Bisquick
1 lb. sausage
2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded

Combine all ingredients well.  Shape into 1 inch balls and place approximately 1/2 inch apart in shallow baking dish.  Place in 350 degree oven and bake 20-25 minutes or until sausage balls are golden brown and cooked through. 


It's almost impossible to mix these ingredients in a bowl.  I find it is easiest to just clean the counter top and mix them there. 



Make sure to get the Bisquick worked in well or the sausage balls will be dry.



When I plan to freeze them for later use I place them on a baking sheet and put them in the freeze to firm up before placing them in a Ziploc bag.   Sausage balls can be cooked from a frozen state, there is no need to thaw.
